Tree Health Consultation and Free Estimate
01
The first step is the most important. Asking an arborist about tree health is no different than asking a doctor about your personal health. We are trained to optimize health and growth of your very valuable assets to this west Texas landscape and we would be happy to get a plan for your trees health. West Texas presents unique challenges to many tree species and we are educated and experienced to optimize the limited water and resources available.

Full Service Tree Prune
02
Tree pruning is part science, part art. No two arborists will prune a tree exactly alike. There are many levels of “prune”. This can be dictated by the amount of money spent on a tree, the arborists actual personal level of love for your tree and downright work ethic or personal pride. This service is often times very physically demanding of our own health and comfort. The cost of doing business often rises with unpredicted breaks in equipment, etc. The weather does not always cooperate. We will not cut corners on your trees to offset these factors. A Hardwoods Prune is a higher level of service than you will find anywhere. It really takes becoming our customer or talking to a previous customer to understand the value of our bid. Your trees are our trees. We love passing our customers yards and seeing the trees notably standout as beautiful amongst the neighborhood. All employees are required to stop and remove any dead limbs hanging or below trees that we have full-serviced. This rarely happens because our full-service trees are designed to withstand the wind and weather West Texas throws at them. On a full-service, we go out every limb and remove even the tiny dead twigs. We also seal up our cuts. Something that has become unpopular with other tree services because it is expensive and messy on persons and equipment. Sealing also prevents a major of re-sprout in undesired areas. We also remove old dead stubs that were result of improper cuts that are not healing and debride the cambium around them and re-seal so the tree can actually heal, hold vacuum and ward off insects and decay. To understand unsealed cuts and dead limbs, try drinking a Coke with a hole in your straw. A tree is a pump and needs to hold vacuum to be efficient. Your trees will love their life after a Hardwoods prune!

Tree Feeding and Insect Control
03
Tree feeding in west Texas is very important. The water here is so alkaline it causes iron deficiency. The more you irrigate with ground water, the more iron deficient the trees become. We can correct our groundwater deficiencies with nutrient feeding. And since we can’t count on it raining, this is our best failsafe to keep our trees hydrated and growth rates optimum. Insect and disease control is also obviously of upmost importance. Most all tree damage is irreversible. The scars remain and we manage them. Ideally we would like to be ahead of problems and never sustain scars and rot. Correct pruning is also one of the most important factors of feeding a tree and insect control. If it’s not pruned correctly, we are wasting resources and inviting insects and decay all the while.

Cabling and Bolting
04
Cables and bolts are another important topic in west Texas. The number one reason is from selecting twins and multiple trunked trees from the nursery. This is a trend and assumed better value. I admit, it often looks appealing. But the truth is that a single trunk tree is many times stronger and more efficient. Let’s take a twin trunk, included bark tree for example. Now picture the root system mirroring the canopy or part of the tree you see above ground. You have a Left and Right side above ground and a Left and Right side below ground. They are bilateral. The Right side above ground is not connected to the Left side below ground and vice versa. This is a real problem! The right side only has support to the direction in which it is leaning and vice versa! This is a physics catastrophy. The solution is to cable the trees together externally or above ground to tie the Right side canopy to the Left side root system. If you have a multiple trunk tree in your or your neighbors yard, that is not cabled, look to see if any of the trunks are pointing towards a home or structure. It is a good idea to have a neighbors tree cabled (with permission) if it will be hitting your house if it fails in a storm. Here is a good example of a twin Red Oak failure that happened in Lubbock. Shown is the Left Trunk and Left roots. The right tree also fell. If they would have been cabled, this would not have happened.

Tree Removal
05
We like to take care of every tree possible in west Texas but inevitably there are many that need removing. They may have sustained too much damage, planted in a bad spot or any other reason. We specialize in difficult removals. In between and over houses, dead wood or power line proximity, we are trained, experienced and can handle it all. Tree removals are bid at ground level or below ground which includes stump grinding. A lot of customers save money on stump grinding and set a landscape rock over the stump or ask for the felling cut to be table height, etc.

Stump grinding can be costly with multiple pieces of heavy equipment involved on larger stumps and root systems such as Fruitless Mulberry as shown here at a yard in the Rush Addition of Lubbock.

Tree Planting
07
We can get many species of trees and go above and beyond to get the trees planted in a manner that will lead to a long healthy life. Hand selection from the nursery is THE UPMOST IMPORTANT step to planting trees. Many nursery trees will not have a successful life and it can be seen by an arborist before they ever leave the nursery. Never buy trees that are were not picked by an arborist.

Landscape and Zeroscaping
08
We love trees but have also come to love designing the entire yardscape. We simply want our customers yard to shine amongst the neighborhood. It’s a testament of the Hardwoods brand. We plant trees, shrubs, flowers, install curbs, rock, irrigation, sod, artificial turf and pergolas.

Custom Pergolas
09
We design and custom mill, one of a kind pergolas. Use your imagination. We want to build your dream pergola. From full trunk, live edge columns to Venetian blind style roof tops that open and close or adjust to the sun angle. We have re-invented the wheel on pergolas and there is no competition. We can also do gate overheads for entryways. We use trees from the Ruidoso area. These are fun and make your yard or pool area a favorite hangout spot.
